We are a AU wizarding school site based very loosely on Harry Potter. We allow only original characters but the houses you may be sorted into are the same. Here we believe that with a little bit of magic and charm anyone can make it as a wizard so why not see what might await you?
It was about 10 pm snowing when Arlo was finally able to leave the bar he worked at. He did not exactly like that which was why he pulled up the hood of his jacket and headed straight back home because it was too cold to spend any more time than necessary outside. Besides, it was late enough for him to just say hi to Michelle quickly before heading straight to bed, if she was even up anymore.
His plan seemed to fail when he arrived though because when he had locked open the door and tried to turn on the light in the hall, it didn't work. He tried the light switch a couple times but no light. "Michelle?", he asked and narrowed his eyes to see something in the dark. "Are you home?", he added after a moment and took off his shoes before entering the living room where he also tried the light switch but it also didn't seem to work. "Isn't this just great."

Michelle had woke up at a little bit before 10 pm, she had went to use the washroom. When she went to turn on the bathroom light on, it wouldn't go on and than went to try to turn other lights. But none of them would come on, she let out sigh and went to try find some candles or something to use for light. As she went to check her room for some, heard Arlo's voice and knew that he must have just got home from work.
"I am in here."
Michelle said, as she stands in her doorway to her room.
He was relieved that he wasn't alone in the apartment. Arlo hated the dark, at least when he was inside, outside it was nice. But the main problem wasn't the lack of light but rather the lack of heating while the electricity was gone. "Well, this sucks", he stated when Michelle confirmed what he'd thought.
"It's snowing outside, so it's probably going to be really cold tonight..." He felt cold way too easily and if it was actually going to be cold in the apartment, so Arlo was pretty certain that today was the day he was going to die. "Oh wait, I have some candles. And blankets. We could sit in the living room together, so when it gets cold we have the two of us and the candles there to at least warm the room up a little bit? If you're okay with it", he suggested because he would rather spend some awkward time together with his room mate than to freeze to death.
"We should probably wait until the morning when it's at least a bit warmer to look outside, right now it's freezing. Maybe the power is going to come back on later tonight", he suggested. They should try to keep the windows and doors shut, to keep the warmth they still had in the apartment inside.
He froze for a moment when she suggested sharing a heated blanket. She was only being nice but still, it caught him a bit off guard. "That would be nice, actually." After saying that he disappeared in his room and grabbed every blanket he could get and a couple tealights because he didn't have any actual candles.
"Okay, this is all I've got", he said as he walked over to the living room. "We should make the most of this, we.... we didn't really get the chance to get to know each other." He crossed his arms and rubbed them slightly because though it wasn't even that cold, he already felt like he was freezing. "It was a terrible idea to return from spain in late autumn, it's way too cold anyway."
He nodded slightly and looked at the pile of blankets they had now. Apparently it wasn't too subtle that he was freezing because Michelle turned on the heated blanket. "You are quite literally saving my life right now", he remarked as he sat down on the couch next to her. Usually he'd be uncomfortable with how close they were, but hey, anything to keep warm.
"Well... first of all, I probably have to apologize for my little sister. She told me that she met you the other day and she seemed very proud of herself which can't mean any good", he started talking because he felt like silence would be awkward right now.

Michelle looks at him and giggles.
"Well than, your welcome."
Michelle said, smiling and watches him sit down next to her on the couch. She suddenly feeling nervous with him sitting close to her and felt her heart beating really fast. She didn't know why that was happening.
"It's alright, i know how siblings are. She didn't seem all that bad, i mean i don't have a sister. She kind of how my brother was, when he was younger, so it's fine."
He smiled relieved when she said that Teresa hadn't been too much of an annoyance. The girl was a handful of work. "Well, my other siblings are really sweet compared to her", he noted and then thought for a second. This was his first real opportunity to get to know more about her, right? It had saddened him that he knew so little about her.
"So, you have a brother? Is he older or younger?", he asked her and chewed his lip. He didn't want this to become as awkward as the last time when they'd talked had been. Arlo had to admit that it was probably the cold that was keeping him underneath the blanket because he did have the urge to back away a bit but on the other hand it was... kind of nice to be this close to someone? He felt his cheeks blush and looked away, so that Michelle wouldn't notice or at least he hoped she wouldn't.

Michelle sees him smile and couldn't help, but think that he has a nice smile.
"Oh really, are they still in school or no?"
Michelle asked, she that his sister Teresa is in school already and wondered if his other siblings were or not. Thought how this was their first chance to get to know him, always thought it was good to get to know someone, that you will be seeing a lot of. Specially if your living with someone.
"Yes i do, he is older than me and his is married."
Michelle said, hoped this won't end up being awkward like it did last time, when they were chatting and than put the blanket over her arms. Michelle was looking down at her lap, because she could feel her cheeks get warm and hoped he didn't notice it either.
"All of them are still in school, except for Nate. I think Faye is going to graduate after this school year, Tess is in sixth year and my brother Casey is in fifth", he answered the question and shook his head. "I'm not sure what made our parents think of adopting five children, but I really like my family." Family was all you got eventually, wasn't it?
He listened to her talk about her brother. "He must be very lucky to have you as his sister", he said, the words kind of slipped out and he felt his cheek heat up even more. "I mean, because you are a really kind person." That did not make anything any less awkward, but well, the words had been said now. "I'm horrible at talking, sorry", he apologized with a small laugh.
It was easier to talk to her when he wasn't looking at her though, even when he was very aware that she was sitting right next to him. It was almost embarassing how he acted like a boy who was around his crush when he was around her.

Michelle listens to him talk about his siblings.
"Oh ok, I bet she is happy to being able to leaving school. Oh so your all adopted? Oh that's good, i like my family also."
"Yeah, he doesn't think so sometimes. But most of the time we get along pretty well, we didn't start getting along until i got older though. I guess, i have my moments sometimes where i am not so kind to people."
Michelle said and than shakes her head.
"It's fine, i think your doing alright with talking to me."
Michelle said, as she smiles.
Michelle could feel her cheeks get warm, when he said that she is a kind person. She felt like she was having a nice chat with her crush and she felt kind of nervous sitting right next to him.
He wasn't too sure if Faye would be glad about leaving school, he hadn't asked her and it wasn't like she was all that open. "I'm sure she's going to be fine", he said and then slowly nodded at the question whether they all were adopted. "Yeah, we all are. But it doesn't really matter, we're a family anyway and we all grew up together."
Then he listened to her talk about her brother and he smiled a little. It was good to know that even someone who seemed good as gold, like Michelle did, could be not so kind. Still he was certain that he was more of a prick than she was. "How much older than you is he?", he asked out of curiosity. Actually there were quite a few questions he had about her brother. But they all sounded kind of awkward in his head already, so they'd probably come out as even more awkward when he asked them out loud.
He let out a laugh of relief when she said that he was doing alright. "I'm glad you think that. I prefered books over actual company when I was younger, to be honest I still take a book over actual social interaction with the majority of people any time." When the light was out, talking seemed a lot easier because he only saw the shadow of Michelle beside him. He knew she was there but he couldn't quite see her which was a little comforting. "You are not part of that majority. At least I think so, if that makes you feel better", he added after a moment, when he thought about his words, he didn't want to offend her with his words.

Michelle listens to him speak, wish the lights would turn back on. She thought it was bad not to be able to see the person that your talking too.
"I am sure she will be."
"Oh ok, i totally agree with you there. It doesn't matter if you share the same blood or not, a family is still a family. Were you adopted as a baby or how old were you when you got adopted, if you don't mind me asking"
"Well he is in his 30's now and i am 23, so i actually know how much older he is than me. I have never been really good at math."
Michelle said, pulls her arms out from under the blanket and puts them in her lap.
"Oh. If you don't mind me asking, is it because you think that you are not good at talking to people?"
Michelle asked, hoped that he didn't think that she was being nosy. Was thinking about getting some water and was about ask him if he would like some, when he said something else.
"Well that's good, yeah it kind of does to be honest."
Michelle said, than she remembered about asking him something.
"I thought about getting some water, would you like some also?"
"I was a baby... actually, I don't even know how old I was exactly but must have been very, very young. When I was younger it felt like it was kind of a big deal, you know? That I am adopted, I mean. I had a phase in which I actually made plans to run away from home and go looking for my birth parents, but they have never bothered to check on me or do anything to show interest in me, so at some point I figured, that I'd be better off without them." Arlo was certain that he had just said more words than he had in the past year combined. He knew that he was oversharing, but he somehow couldn't help it.
He nodded slowly, when she said how old her brother was but didn't know what to actually say about that. Nice? Maybe not nice because it was unnerving to know that the girl he lived with had an older brother? Then Michelle asked another question and he bit his lip. "Probably... It's not like I wanted to make friends, during my first year at Hogwarts I was happy about having my distance to everyone. And then it was too late and now as an adult, people expect you to act like a normal person at social events which is hard. Saying that stuff out loud makes me sound pathetic." He let out an embarrased chuckle.
Then she asked if he wanted some water and he peered over into the dark where the kitchen was supposed to be. "That would be nice", he said with a nod. "I can come to the kitchen with you, I can hold a candle so you can actually see something?" He knew that right now, he was definetly talking too much but he couldn't help it, it felt unusual to have someone to share everything he had on his mind with somebody.
